—Send the Ravens
—
Drought means no rain
God sent the ravens
to Elijah
twice a day
They laid bread and meat before him
while he watched
the river run away
They made a halo out of straw
to put behind his head
and said,
God is feeding you
This is who He is. This is who we are.
The river ran dry
according to the plan
they found themselves in a different dry land
Elijah told the mother who wouldn’t share her bread,
God is feeding you
She believed and it changed everything
Elijah said, I will challenge all the powers that be
Everyone will believe
Fire rained down from the sky
a lot of people died
But nothing changed
that could be seen
Nothing changed that could be seen
God sent the angel to touch Elijah
and tell him to rest
The angel said,
God is touching you
This is who He is. This is who we are.
Just let me die. I’m done
don’t feed me, don’t touch me
don’t bring back the dead
just let me die. I’m done
This is who He is. This is who we are.
Then the angel said,
Elijah
Find the energy at the end of your rope
where your scream is dry
and your mind is an empty road
Be the mountain
where straw halos burn away
where ravens and angels sit back
and you hear God say in his own voice,
What are you doing here?
And the ravens cawed,
This is who He is. This is who we are.
