Daycare
the Parent drops you off
without a second thought
In their mind they know the time
–they know exactly when
it will end, the fact that
a day is like a thousand
years doesn’t bother them

It’s an eternity
to a child
in a room full of children
 share your toys
 wait your turn
 make a friend
so much to learn
–at daycare
tasks and games
distraction, drama
lunch and naps
stories, trauma

Finally the pickup
but wait
who are you, where have you been
my world is here now
these are my friends
–you say Paradise
I can’t do this again
